The Archivist is one of three Blood Sentinels in Infinity Blade II, able to be fought in the History Room after beating Thane for the first time. The Archivist guards one of the seals to the Vault of Tears, which holds the Worker of Secrets. Despite having lived for a long time, *According o the Fiction Podcast. the Archivist is not Deathless and instead an immortal human (similar to Archarin). However, this detail is contradicted from the September 2014 QNA where is is stated the Archvist is a Deathless. Weather or not he is or is not a Deathless is unconfirmed.

History[]

Upon Siris' second rebirth after defeating Thane, he returns in order to free the Worker of Secrets. Siris then comes across the Archivist, the first Blood Sentinel standing in front of a giant stone tablet engraved with markings. The Archivist tells Siris that he should not have come and laments that Siris is probably only a pawn in greater schemes. He also tells Siris that the place they stand in was once the home of a great evil who is now gone, slain by Raidriar on the Plains of Koroth. Despite that, the Archivist says that he remained to study, ponder, and question. Before engaging Siris, the Archivist tells him that he will kill him with his blood spilt in remorse. During the battle, the Archivist is shocked to see that it is not only a Deathless fighting him but Ausar himself (as Siris). Upon his defeat, the Archivist warns Ausar that he has begun something he cannot finish and that before he unlocks the rest of the seals, the whole place will come crashing down and The Worker will die with it. Afterwards, Siris plunges his hand into the seal, killing himself in the process and breaking one of the seals restricting access to The Worker.

Combat[]

The Archivist is a large Dual Wielding Titan, first encountered at 50 with no resistances or elemental attacks. (despite wielding the Sacrum blades, which deal Element Dark IB1 damage when used by Siris). He is uncharacteristically slow, as must Dual Titans are rather fast, and no matter how high the player's rebirths are, he appears to be slower than other Dual Wielding Enemies. The Archivist is one of the few magic users in Infinity Blade II. He will randomly leap back and fire swirls of dark energy in a similar fashion to Saydhi's fire pulses and Thane's ice bolts, ultimately finishing the volley with a leaping overhead slash. Despite the visual appearance, the dark energy attacks do not always deal Element Dark IB1 damage, but rather do whatever Elemental Damage the Archivist currently has selected.

Stepbacks[]

Archivist has three Stepbacks

Double Dual Slash

Archivist-Stepback-A-IB2

Analysis

In this Stepback Archvist does two slashes in quick succession from the upper left, than finishes with another two slashes downward.

This Stepback can be avoided in multiple ways, the most optimal is to dodge left/duck using Dual Weapons his first two slashes. Than, quickly move to the left or right to avoid his final two slashes. A dodge break with dual weapons will give you the most amount of time to attack back. Alternately, if one is using a Heavy weapon, the most optimal play is to parry the first slash by swiping up and to the left. This will give you a parry break and will save shield points. If you're having trouble with either of these then holding Shield with a Light Weapon will also work, it's just the least efficient sense it will give you the least amount of time to strike back, and Archvist can still deal damage if he has elemental attacks, provided you don't have a corresponding elemental defense Shield or Gem.

Spin Kick Slash

Analysis

In this Stepback the Archivist does two spin kicks from the left, than pauses slightly and delivers two slashes from the left, before finishing with a slash from the upper right.

Avoiding this Stepback can be done in multiple ways, the easiest, and most optimal, is to use a Dual Weapons and duck under every attack. A dodge break with dual weapons will give you the most amount of time to attack back, just make sure you time yourself so you don't suffer from exhaustion or take unnecessary damage. If you are using a Heavy Weapon, avoid the first two kicks by blocking to the left, than parry the first slash by swiping to the left. This will conserve precious shield points and give a larger attack window than a block break. If you're having trouble with either of these then holding Shield with a Light Weapon will also work, it's just the least efficient sense it will give you the least amount of time to strike back, and Archvist can still deal damage if he has elemental attacks, provided you don't have a corresponding elemental defense Shield or Gem.

Jump Slam Slash

Analysis

In this Stepback, Archvist jumps into the air and slams his fist into the center, following up with two quick upward slashes, one from the bottom right, and one from the bottom left, he than finishes by slashing the left and right sides simultaneously.

Avoiding this Stepback can be done in multiple ways, the most optimal is to dodge to the left or right to avoid the slam, than quickly duck all the remaining attacks Dual Weapons. A dodge break with dual weapons will give you the most amount of time to attack back. If you are using a Heavy Weapon, avoid the center slam by center blocking, than parry the first slash by swiping to the bottom right. This will conserve precious shield points and give a larger attack window than a block break. It's worth noting that a stab/slash icon will appear on Archivist's chest shortly before his final slash. However, since stab/slash breaks equate to less damage than parry, perfect block, or dodge breaks it is not recommended you pursue the stab/slash break unless there is no time to avoid/perfect block the final attack or have a Gem that triggers from Stabs or Slashes. If you're having trouble with either of these then holding Shield with a Light Weapon will also work, it's just the least efficient sense it will give you the least amount of time to strike back, and Archvist can still deal damage if he has elemental attacks, provided you don't have a corresponding elemental defense Shield or Gem.

Combat Tips IB2[]

Dual Weapons are the best against Archivist, due to the fact that he is quite slow for his class. This, combined with his similar fighting style to Titians like him make most of his attacks easily avoidable. As mentioned before, the Archivist is a magic user, and will use his magic attack quite often. These magic attacks can be blocked, parried, or dodged, and since these magic attacks have little variation, a Gem that triggers off of parrying could be especially useful. Further more, the Archivist's normal slashes are quite easy to perfect parry. If you are having trouble, a Perfect Parry Stun Gem would be very helpful (note, the gem does not trigger off of Archivist's magic attacks).

Trivia[]

  • The Archivist has the lowest level among the Blood Sentinels upon the player first encountering him at level 50.
  • The Archivist's voice actor, Jim Cummings, also voices the Disney characters Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger. He also voices Honda Ohnaka in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, and Loremaster Cho in World of Warcraft.
  • The person supposedly killed by Raidriar on the plains of Koroth that the Archivist refers to is Ausar the Vile (which is Siris). However, he was evidently not killed with the Infinity Blade (or at least not in its charged state) due to Siris remaining alive afterwards.
  • The massive stone with engravings ends up being the holding place for the Redeemer that apparently can be activated by TEL by touching a spot on the stone. The Redeemer then rises out of the ground on a pedestal.

Dialogue

  • Before battle
    • Archivist: "You should not be here."
    • Siris: "What is this place?"
  • Archivist: "It was once the home of the most vile evil to ever befall this world. He's been gone for ages, slain by Raidriar on the plains of Koroth. Many Devoted believe him truly dead - yet here I study, ponder, and....question. The seals must never be broken for he cannot be allowed to return. Poor little man. You are a fraud, and likely a pawn. I spill your blood with regret."

Editor note: The phrasing of the above was deliberately ambiguous to preserve plot intrigue. The individual referred to as the "most vile evil" and "he's been gone for ages" is Ausar. The individual referred to as "[not being] allowed to return" is the Worker of Secrets.

  • Reduce health by 1/3
    • Archivist: "This cannot be! Ausar....?"
  • After battle
    • Archivist: "You have begun something....you cannot finish, Ausar. This place will come crashing down... before you can unlock them all. And the Worker...will die with it!"
