Writing style[]

The Infinity Blade Wiki is an encyclopedic resource, such which serves to objectively describe verifiable information regarding the Infinity Blade series. Articles should be written in a way that therefore informs the viewer what something is, and not what something could be (speculation) nor what something should be (suggestion/recommendation - e.g., acting as a strategy guide). Moreover, by focusing on providing objective information, articles can be prepared in a way that is concise yet comprehensive - in relatively few words, detailing to the viewer key pieces of information that ideally forms a targeted answer to a specific likely query of theirs:

  • Generally: what is X?
  • Regarding making gameplay progress: what steps are required to achieve X?
  • Regarding in-universe history: what events took place?
  • Also: what does X look like? - an opportunity to substitute text with an image

In writing articles with the viewer's sense of information-seeking intention in mind, even shorter articles can present as high standard, and longer articles can remain easily digestible, both leaving the viewer feeling comprehensively informed on the respective article's subject.

General syntax[]

  • American English should be applied.
  • Articles should be written in third person, and without specific reference to the 'player' (exceptions only in specific instances).
  • No heading should be provided for the lead introduction section.
  • The first instance of an article's title should be formatted in bold only.
  • Game/book names are automatically italicized in the first instance that they are linked, and do not require additional formatting in subsequent instances.
  • Page titles should be linked once only. If the same page title appears further down the page, it should not be linked. Links appearing in infoboxes and tables are excluded from this count and may be repeated, including the same links within a table. If a tabber is being used to divide page content, the same links in different tabber sections may be repeated, granted that the links did not occur before the tabber. If they occurred after the tabber, then they may be repeated once only.
  • Headings which use consecutive equals signs '=' should not be separated on either side from the contained phrase by a space. Headings should be preceded by a line break. All level headings should use a capital letter for the first word only, excluding proper nouns. Floated elements including various thumbnails and infoboxes should be positioned from the first line after a heading and before any text.
  • The asterisk '*' or hash '#' used for unordered and ordered lists respectively should not be separated with a space from their text, nor from each consecutive line by a line break.
  • Gallery captions should not end with a period '.', unless multiple sentences are included.
  • Tables composed of wikitext should begin and end with '{|' and '|}' respectively at the start of their lines. Cells which may use either of '|', '!', '|-' or '|+' should be separated by one space from the start of their lines. Style specifications for specific cells should be separated by spaces on either side from the initial pipe and the second pipe beginning the content input. Only class="wikitable" should be included within the first line of a table to enable design styling and formatting.
  • Line break tags <br> and <br clear="both"> which are self-closing do not require the end slash '/' to be included. They should proceed the immediate last content character where needed.
  • Any HTML that is specifically needed should be condensed, with no spaces between characters unless the syntax requires it.
  • Avoid using comments <!-- --> as a permanent fixture except in irregular cases such as where the common positioning of an element differs or where unusual code may be necessary and benefits editors from explanation.

Formats[]

An article in a particular category will generally be using a specific design format, which should be consistently followed for all other and newly created pages in that category. This includes elements such as infoboxes and tables.

Important Grammar Points[]

Words in titles should all have capital letters besides conjunctions, prepositions, etc... (such as "and", "or", "of", "in", and so on).

Writing Style[]

Formal and Technical Language[]

Subject-specific terminology should be used in all articles. If you are talking about swords, for example, use vocabulary relevant to swords, such as "tang", "blade", or "hilt". Don't just use generic terms like "handle" or "sharp part".

The attitude of the writing must be formal. This means that it should be professional and organized.

Tone[]

When writing an article, you have to write in third-person. This means that you do not use personal pronouns ("I", "we", "us") or ever use the word "you" in an article. If you wish to address the reader, then say it the way you would in a procedural text using commands, such as "go" or "climb". If it is absolutely needed, you can use "the player" or "one".

Weasel Words[]

Weasel words are indirect phrases such as "it is said" or "some believe". Instead of saying this, say exactly who it is that says or believes <whatever it is that they believe>.

Item price[]

  • When naming the price of an object in the article body, {{gp}} should be used. The template should not be used in infoboxes, where the symbol is applied automatically.
    • $500
    • 500 gp
    • Gp-icon500
  • Number values should always be separated into groups of three digits by commas.
    • |price = 2500000
    • |price = 2,500,000

Infoboxes[]

Images are automatically processed to fit the width of infoboxes when included in the image parameter. Neither double brackets nor the 'File:' prefix is required.

IB3 weapons[]

This is the current standard format for ALL weapon pages in Infinity Blade III. See Archives: Infinity Blade III Sprites for sprites and links to weapon pages.
Any page that does not follow this format will be removed or edited accordingly.

If the weapon has been in previous games, do not alter what has previously been written in the information section.
If the weapon is relevant to the plot of Infinity Blade III (e.g. Infinity Weapons, Vile Set, etc.), then provide the information here.
If neither condition holds true, skip this section, and rename the next section to 'Information'.

In Infinity Blade III[]

Weapon_Name is a Weapon_Type(light, heavy, dual) (, locked) weapon in Infinity Blade III, (available for purchase in the store for Gp-iconWeapon_Cost / can be obtained by Weapon_Obtain_Method). It is used by Weapon_Character , and is a part of the Weapon_Set.)

How to Obtain <InsertWeaponNameHere>[]

Skip this section if the weapon is NOT locked and can be bought from the store normally.

Otherwise, elaborate on how to obtain the weapon.
