The Vault of Tears is a location, appearing in Infinity Blade II and Infinity Blade III, and in the book Infinity Blade: Awakening.

IB2 Opening

Description[]

The Vault of Tears is an elaborate castle, and the main location where most of the events of Infinity Blade II take place, and where part of Act IV of Infinity Blade III took place. The castle belonged to Ausar the Vile serving as his main residence as well as a secondary later purpose to imprison the Worker of Secrets prisoner within the soul cell at the head of its primary structure. It can be accessed from the roof of the castle, through a platform which descends downwards into the cell. In order to unlock the platform, four blood seals must be activated. They can be activated by inserting a bodily limb into them, breaking the seal, while costing the life of those who commit the act, therefore preventing non-Deathless from being able to individually activate all four. These are spread throughout different areas of the castle, three being obelisks with circular insets, and the fourth being circular inset on the roof platform itself. Additionally, other sections of the castle include a battle arena, a room with books, a shrine of personal significance to Ausar, a dam power generator, a cavernous passageway through the earth that the castle was built upon, and a prison containing skycages, cells that extend from the sides of the castle and hang suspended in midair.

According to Saydhi, the place (ambiguously referring to either the castle itself or the immediate area surrounding it) was once known as Saranthia, and can be reached by traveling "due west, past the sea, in the mountains to the north" of Lantimor.

History[]

Infinity Blade: Awakening[]

In Infinity Blade Awakening, The Vault of Tears is only mentioned at the very end of the book, when Siris ask's Saydhi were The Worker of Secrets is imprisoned. She instructs Siris to "take a ship due west until you strike land, than climb the mountains due north". The book ends right before Siris sets off to The Vault of Tears, leaving on a cliffhanger that was continued with Infinity Blade II.

Infinity Blade II[]

In Infinity Blade II we pick up at the end of Infinity Blade Awakening, when Siris travels to Saydhi's Estate with Isa to find the location of The Worker of Secrets. After some combat, Siris confronts Saydhi about the whereabouts of the Worker of Secrets, to which she replies that he is in "The Vault of Tears, the place once known as Saranthia. Due west, past the sea in the mountains to the north." Nearly the entire rest of the game is spent in the Vault of Tears, except for the ending were Siris returns to Saydhi's estate to challenge Raidriar.

Infinity Blade III[]

Siris returned to the Vault of Tears along with TEL, who he instructed to direct him to where the Redeemer was hidden. Siris fought through titans who had returned to the castle until reaching the room that contained the blood seal that the Archivist once guarded. Before the Redeemer could be retrieved, Melek, a Deathless warlord who recognized Siris as Ausar, confronted him, but was defeated in battle and killed. Siris then prompted TEL to reveal the location of Redeemer. TEL pressed at a surface of the prominent stone slab displaying Pangean hieroglyphs, which activated a pedestal holding the Redeemer to emerge from the ground, Siris taking it and returning to the Hideout.

If the door is opened, it will become locked again upon a NewGame or NewGame+

Skycages[]

For the v1.3 update, see Infinity Blade II: Skycages.
Vault of Tears Skycage 4

The skycages are cells in a prison-like area near the top of the castle accessed via the Skycage Entrance. They are prominent from the outside, seen hanging from beams. When Siris arrives he will have a conversation with the guardian of the prison, Headsman. When the Iron Hunter is nearly defeated, he yields. The player can then decide whether to spare or finish him. If you spare the Iron Hunter, he gifts the player with Torren's Legacy in the next Rebirth. If you don't spare the Iron Hunter you will get the Hunter Mail.
  • The skycage on the right requires The Widow Shriek to be opened. Inside is Xyloto, who battles Siris. He does not seem to tolerate Siris' generosity and possibly thinks he is an accomplice of his captors much like Iron Hunter. Unlike Iron Hunter however, you are not able to spare Xyloto, and have to instead kill him.

The Summit[]

Vault of Tears summit 7

The Summit is the highest point of The Vault of Tears, and is were the actual entrance into The Worker's Soul Cell is located. This location appears to have formerly been some sort of meeting area, as there nine seats in total, with one being bigger and clearly reserved for the head of this council. Given as the Vault of Tear's is Ausar's former castle, it's safe to assume that Ausar once sat in the head chair. The area now is incredibly damaged, with the entire roof now being gone and having only open sky. Uniquely, if arrive at this area after killing Thane in Rebirth One, but before killing all three Blood Sentinel's, Siris will actually attempt to activate the Seal, killing himself in the process and moving on to the next rebirth. Afterwards the game will spawn a very small random selection of enemies.

That random selection of enemies is -

Large Titans = The Dark Knight.

The Archive Balcony is the balcony that overlooks and leads into the Archive Central Text, and is able to be accessed via the right door in the Clock Room after the first rebirth. It is defined by being a viewing platform for the central stone slab, but also featuring a number of smaller slabs, all of which are written in Pangean, making the entire area seem like it is some sort of museum. After Gargap is defeated, no other enemy will spawn in the his nest, and he will not respawn until the next New Game.

The Sacred Cave[]

The Sacred Cave is a area located directly underneath the dam the Vault of Tears is built on. It is characterized by it's dingy atmosphere and narrow stone bridge that leads to one of the three blood seals. The Hallway is quite baron, only housing a single, inaccessible door on the right side. The area's primary purpose is to challenge the player with another combat encounter before they proceed into The Hanger Bay.

Enemy Spawns[]

The Hanger Hallway can spawn a class of Titan that is either Regular or Large. The Titan already be there once you arrive. However the first time the player arrives here, the spawn will be fixed. The game will spawn a MX-Stealth, before switching to a random selection of enemies.

That random selection of enemies is -

Regular Titans = EXO-Pilot.

Large Titans = MX-Defender.

Tall Titans = MX-Enforcer, MX-Stealth.

Hanger Bay[]

The Hanger bay is the location the third blood seal. The Hanger Bay is characterized by it being modeled off modern day plane hanger bays, making it contrast to the rest of the medieval/fantasy inspired asthenic of the rest of The Vault of Tears. By the walls of the Hanger Bay are two MX-Hulk's, one in pieces and the other seemingly more complete, however both appear inoperable. There is a large chest that can be looted on the left side of the wall before progressing further in. Finally, this area is were you can find the location depicted in the Mechanics Map.

Enemy Spawns[]

Two fights can take place in this area. The first is a boss fight with MX-Goliath, who will always be here until he is defeated. After which, Siris will automatically place his hand in the blood seal, killing him, and forcing a rebirth. Once, MX-Goliath is defeated, returning to this area open up a new path allowing you to go to [insert location] to progress. However if MX-Goliath has been defeated, and the player has either the Solar Trans-OX, Solar Trans-LX, or Solar Trans-JX. A new character named Ryth will appear and challenge Siris to a dual. Worker's Soul Cell[]

VoT

The Worker's Soul Cell is a Soul Cell entered from the roof of the Vault of Tears, and the area used to imprison the Worker of Secrets. Advanced technology prevent the Vault's prisoners from leaving the Vault by any means without the The Infinity Blade and another Deathless to take their place. This area can only be entered once, after the second battle with Thane. The area is characterized for being none other than the prison cell of The Worker of Secrets, who the player spends nearly the entire game getting to by this point. A large chest can be looted to the left of The Worker before proceeding further into the cell.

Enemy Spawns[]

Only one battle can take place here, and that is the third fight with Thane. The fight is intended to be a surprise, with only question marks showing up when looking at the enemy check button, possibly trying to trick the player into thinking they will fight The Worker himself. This third version of Thane will have the same level as the second version, but have less health. After Thane is defeated, The Worker will destabilize his QIP, ending the encounter, and starting a conversation with Siris.

Vault of Tears Entrance[]

Vault of Tears front entrance night 3

The Vault of Tears Entrance refers to the area that every playthrough of the mission begins at. Siris will arrive in a identical manner to how he appears at the same area in Infinity Blade II, minus his reformation that he will free The Worker, before a title card appears on screen. This area is characterized by it's proximity to the dam, and the Vault of Tears looming ominously in the background, with birds circling around it like vultures. A titan will arrive from down the path and confront Siris. After the Titan is defeated, you can loot a unlocked chest, and than must head straight to The Front Gate.

When the player arrives they will be greeted by a titan. After they are dealt with, two chests are available to be opened. One is a unlocked chest on the left, and another is a Small Chest on the Right. Regardless of what you do, you must progress through the gate itself and into the Courtyard Hallway in order to proceed.

Enemy Spawns[]

The Front Gate can spawn a titan that is either Regular Sized, Large, Tall, or Giant. When walking in, TEL will accompany Siris, but before the player can proceed further, a titan will drop from the ceiling and block the path, and must be defeated in order to progress. After the titan is dead, the player can open a medium chest located to the right, but otherwise is forced to proceed into the Courtyard.

A titan guards the gate to the clock room, who will leap into battle upon initiating combat, the titan must be killed in order to progress. When moving the the next area, TEL will continue to accompany Siris. The Dragon statue from Infinity Blade II has changed slightly, with the egg now being cracked open. The clock room used to have a large clock in constant motion, along with stained glass skylights in Infinity Blade II, however, both are now destroyed. When walking in, Benedict Burgess Batteric III will be here, seemingly looking for Gems. Siris will attempt to recruit him on the promise he will be free, but Benedict responds by saying "freedom is cheap." Siris orders him to get out, to which he politely obliges. What's strange about this cutscene is it will play after you have already recruited him, and on all subsequent playthroughs of the mission. After the cutscene, a titan will drop from the ceiling and must be defeated in order to progress. Before the titan drops however, you have the opportunity to claim a unlocked chest on the left. And once the titan reveal's themselves, but before you start the battle, you can also potentially loot a small chest to your right.

The Archive Balcony[]

Vault of Tears History Room night 5

The Archive Balcony is the balcony that overlooks and leads into the Archive Central Text, and is accessed via the right door in The Clock Room. It is defined by being a viewing platform for the central stone slab, but also featuring a number of smaller slabs, all of which are written in Pangean, making the entire area seem like it is some sort of museum or archive. When the player arrives, a titan will appear to stop the player. Afterwards, the player must proceed to The Archive Floor. However, after Melek has been defeated, the mission ends right here with Siris immolating and going back to The Hideout, never going down to the floor. Before they do this, the player can loot a Large Chest located to the left.

Enemy Spawns[]

'The Archive Balcony can spawn a class of Titan that is either Regular, Large, or Tall. However the first time the player arrives here, the spawns will be fixed and will remain fixed until the titan is defeated once. The Archive Floor[]

Mel

The Archive Floor is the area The Archive Balcony overlooks. This area is defined by the enormous stone slab at it's center, which houses The Redeemer. Before Siris can obtain it, Melek will drop down. He will talk to Siris, who he address as Ausar, encouraging Siris to remember what he once was, something Siris adamantly rejects, causing the both of them to enter a dueling stance. Once defeated, Siris will demand TEL show him were The Redeemer is. TEL will reluctantly oblige, pressing a spot on the giant text, which reveals a secret compartment housing The Redeemer, Siris will grab it, and leave The vault of Tears. We cut back to The Hideout, were Siris is working with Eves and Jensen to modify The Redeemer. Jensen expresses concern that it may not work, but Siris proclaims that they must try, the mission than ends.

Enemy Spawns[]

Only one enemy spawns here, that being the aforementioned Melek: Warlord of House IX. As mentioned earlier, this area can not be reached again after Melek is defeated, making it so the only enemy that spawns there will be him.

Maps and Diagrams[]

Tree of Seals[]

Tree

There are three seals guarded by the blood sentinels that must be unlocked before the Vault of Tears can be opened. When a seal is unlocked by Siris, he dies and is reborn.

  • Seal1 - The Archivist's seal, found at the top right of the tree
  • Seal2 - The Stone Demon's seal, found at the bottom of the tree
  • Seal3 - MX-Goliath's seal, found at the top left of the tree

The "Tree of Seals" is a representation of the three seals, and where they are positioned relative to the Vault of Tears, which is located in the center of the tree. The Archivist's seal and MX-Goliath's seal are located at the top left and right of the tree respectively, as they are positioned leading off of the clock room. The Stone Demon's seal is at the bottom of the tree, as well as literally below the tower.

Bugs and Glitches[]

A game breaking bug occurred if a player spared the Iron Hunter twice. The only way to fix this was to restart at Rebirth 1. This bug is fixed in 1.3.1 update. The second time you meet Iron Hunter, you will be rewarded of some gold instead of another Torren's Legacy (though the cutscene stays the same).

Equip which weapon you need. Then when you go to press the button quickly press the menu button at the top of the screen. If you did this quickly enough you will be able to equip another more powerful weapon.

There is a bug when fighting the prisoner on the left. The bug appears when you happen to get the stabbing event after landing a perfect parade. If you press the Magic Icon at the right time you can infinitely stab him until he dies.

Trivia[]

  • The guardian's dialogue suggests that the three prisoners tried to release the Worker of Secrets.
  • The bridge leading to the castle vaguely resembles a dam.
  • The Vault of Secrets is in the region of the modern day Alps.
  • The Vault of Secrets is the only location in all of the Infinity Blade games that is shown both at day and night.
  • Saydhi tells Siris that Saranthia is "due west, past the sea, in the mountains to the north" (IB2) or "due west until you strike land, [past] the mountains to the north" (Infinity Blade: Awakening), but Saranthia is almost directly north of Saydhi's Estate in Lantimor.
